New Student Induction Framework: support students to Make the Most of Manchester
06 Feb 2014
Following the extensive consultation undertaken by the Welcome and Induction Project during 2013, a new Manchester Induction Framework has now been approved for use with all student groups.
A successful and effective induction, which takes place in stages throughout the course of a student’s programme of study, is a vital component of student success.
The induction framework aims to contribute to students’ success at The University of Manchester by supporting them in the development of skills, knowledge, behaviours and networks that will enable them to ‘Make the Most of Manchester’.
What is different about the new induction framework?
Instead of taking a prescriptive approach to induction activities, the framework concentrates on breaking induction down into a series of outcomes that describe the characteristics of a successfully inducted student. It goes on to identify key content that should be provided over the course of the student lifecycle and finally states the principles that underpin the Manchester approach.
The framework has been agreed in partnership with students, via the Students' Union, and the expectation that students will be included in both planning and review of induction is explicitly stated as one of the principles of induction.
