Network upgrade work continuing next week
05 Feb 2014
Following this weeks’ work in Stopford Building, core network routers in Renold Building are next to be upgraded as part of the core network project.
In response to feedback from the research community, IT Services are carrying out work to increase the speed of the core network at the University; which supports connectivity across campus, linking buildings, data centres, halls of residence, providing connectivity to other universities and of course the internet.
The improved network will allow faster speeds to your computer desktop, as well as bring significant benefit to the Computational Shared Facility (CSF) and Research Data Service (RDS).
Initial works to achieve this will involve upgrading the core network routers which support various University systems and services. This will involve some periods of (minimal) downtime, with works mostly taking place in the mornings, between 07.30am and 09.15am (with further contingency of 1 hour to 10.15am).
Work will continue on 11 February, with the upgrade of the core network routers in the Renold Building.
Further work will then continue the following week, as follows:
- Whitworth Hall (and associated buildings): 18 February 2014
Full information of which buildings, systems and services will be affected during the works in February is available on the Core network upgrade project webpage.
Reminder notices will be posted on StaffNet prior to each set of works being carried out.
