University sends bumper Christmas delivery to Wood Street
06 Jan 2014
Thank you for your generous donations of toys, food and money to the Mission's Christmas Project 2013.
Once again, colleagues at the University have contributed generously to a really bumper collection of gifts or have given their time to organise donations and collections. We understand that at least four vanloads of donations were delivered to the Wood Street Mission, who are helping an increased number of local families this Christmas.
Your donations have gone towards creating a parcel for each family containing toys appropriate to each age group and at least one book (as part of Wood Street's ongoing commitment to encourage children to read). Each family will also receive a food hamper packed with a variety of items to help them provide a range of nutritional meals for all members throughout the extended Christmas holidays. Wood Street is now distributing the parcels to the families in plenty of time for Christmas.
After Christmas, Wood Street Mission will continue to support families throughout the year by providing clothing parcels, baby equipment, bedding and Easter eggs, as well as offering a school uniform package at the beginning of the school year.
In these difficult economic times, more and more families are struggling to provide basic items for their children and Wood Street Mission is attempting to meet increasing demands for its services from diminishing levels of donations. For this reason, the Mission is grateful for the year-round support it receives from our staff.
We would like to thank everyone who made donations to the 2013 appeal or who was involved with it in any way. Our thanks also go to members of staff in Central Stores (North Campus) who collected donations from around the University and ensured that they were delivered to Wood Street Mission on time.
