Diversion of traffic on Upper Brook Street during water main repairs

06 Jan 2014

From 2 January 2014, the 147 bus service and other traffic will be diverted between Hathersage Road and Grafton Street while United Utilities carries out major water main repairs.

The work will continue for approximately eight weeks.

Key aspects of the work

  • Work will start at Hathersage Road junction working up in phases along Upper Brook Street towards Grafton Street.
  • Work will affect the northbound city centre directional carriageway which will be closed during part of the works (from 9 January 2014 for up to six weeks).
  • There will be a one-way system along Upper Brook Street with traffic flowing towards Hathersage Road from Grafton Street.
  • There will be no car parking on Upper Brook Street during the works.
  • United Utilities intend to maintain and have back-up water systems serving the area during the works.

Impact on 147 bus service

The 147 bus will follow a diversion route: both the Hathersage Road and Grafton Street stops will be open, while the three stops on Upper Brook Street will be closed.

The 147 will turn left out of the Hospital Boulevard onto Hathersage Road, go straight over Upper Brook Street, along Plymouth Grove and rejoin the normal route at Grafton Street.

Unfortunately, there may be punctuality issues at peak times due to traffic congestion in the area. The link service apologises for this but its drivers are doing their best to be as timely as possible.
