Places still available on the European Computer Driver's Licence (ECDL) course

13 Dec 2013

The programme will start w/c 20 January 2014 and runs for 30 weeks

ECDL is a qualification designed to be achieved by self study; however some pupils prefer to work in a small supervised group.

ECDL is an internationally-recognised qualification that covers a wide range of IT software packages.  The STDU run it as a taught course, in three modules of ten weeks each.  Your commitment is to attend a half-day session once a week for these 30 weeks.

The topics covered are:

  • Module 1 – Security, Basics of the Computer, Word
  • Module 2 – Excel, Access
  • Module 3 – PowerPoint, Email and the Internet

Prerequisites

ECDL is open to all staff.  Please note, however, that ECDL is not a basic-level programme; in order to successfully complete the course you need to have some experience of using a computer and some prior knowledge of Microsoft Office.  This could include activities such as being able to open and close programs, being able to use the mouse, familiarity with the keyboard and some level of typing skill, sending emails and searching the internet, using Word, some familiarity with the filing system.  You also need access to a computer outside the classroom in order to complete homework – we currently use Office 2007.
