Having an event on campus? Open day? Public seminar? Tell the Visitors Centre
13 Aug 2014
The Visitors Centre, located in the iconic University Place, is often the first point of contact for visitors to the University
The Visitors Centre deals with hundreds of visitors to the University every month. Prospective students and their parents, visiting academics, current students and staff, interviewees and members of the general public.
Sarah Davenport, Communications Assistant at the Visitors Centre, said:- "By far the most frequently asked questions we get here are about locations. Even if the visitor has been provided with all the details they need, very often they arrive without having taken a note of anything and just trust they will be directed when they get here. Problems then arise when they are asking about an event at the University that we haven't been told anything about. It can take quite a long time to track down the correct person to ask about it!"
"It would be really great if Schools and Faculties could just drop us a quick email when they are having an open day or public event of any kind with a few details about times and locations so we can direct their guests quickly and efficiently."
The Visitors Centre also provides information ranging from under and postgraduate prospectuses, accommodation booklets, campus maps and UniLife magazines to What's On information for the Manchester Museum, John Rylands Library, Jodrell Bank and the Martin Harris Centre as well as city-wide tourist information.
"We really are a one-stop-shop for a huge range of literature. We send out thousands of campus maps around the University every year as well as providing staff, students and visitors with an array of useful booklets and information guides they can take away and peruse at their leisure. It's a great place to work because every single day brings new people in the door who go away with a really positive first impression of the University."
