Artful approaches to fundraising for Wood Street Mission

27 Nov 2013

Charity events in the city on 27 and 28 November aim to raise money for local families affected by poverty.

Launch of second Manchester and Salford Illustrated exhibition
28 November at 52 Princess Street

Manchester and Salford Illustrated (#MASI), an exhibition of illustrations by Greater Manchester creatives to raise funds for Wood Street Mission, will run from 28 November until the end of December 2013. The show will feature work by around 30 commercial artists and illustrators, giving their personal take on ‘Everyday Manchester and Salford’.

It has been organised by local creative professionals working together as Wood Street’s Creative Friends, to raise awareness and funds for Wood Street Mission, a charity that provides help for families affected by poverty.

The exhibition follows Wood Street’s Creative Friends’ inaugural Manchester and Salford Illustrated exhibition in October 2011, which raised nearly £5,000 for the charity.

One of the organisers, Stephen Hey, of Wood Street’s Creative Friends, said: “MASI was really successful in 2011, and this time we want to make even more people aware of the immense commercial illustration talent we have here in Manchester and Salford. By buying a print visitors will be able to take home a distinctive piece of art which won’t cost a fortune, and directly help local children living in poverty.”

Manchester Twestival 2013: Global Twitter campaign
27 November (6.30pm - 10.30pm) at 2022NQ

Social media charity event Manchester Twestival is the local arm of the global fundraising phenomenon, Twestival, which uses social media for social good. It aims to unite people across the world to highlight a great cause and have a fun event.

Manchester Twestival will bring together local artists to create live artwork for attendees to enjoy as they network and raise vital funds for the Wood Street Mission. The artwork produced will also be auctioned after the event. There will also be a raffle with a range of prizes provided by local businesses, retailers and restaurants.

The event is partnered with Manchester Digital and CIPR, and sponsored by Manchester businesses such as McCann Manchester and Hat Trick PR, as well as gaining the support of international companies like EventBrite. It is the culmination of a lot of hard work from volunteers spanning a number of sectors, but special mentions go to Tom Mason (Delineo), Fay Schofield (Coffee Pot Digital), Laura Thomas (Return On Digital) and Jessica Wilkinson (Weber Shandwick).
