Tina Lavender is making a difference

I am developing improvements in women’s health in low and middle income countries
As a Professor of Midwifery I have dedicated my nursing, midwifery and research career to achieving improvements to women’s health.
I direct a Midwifery Research Group in Manchester which seeks to generate high quality evidence with direct application to clinical practice within reproductive health. More recently I am the Project Lead for the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC) Global Women’s Health theme which aims to drive improvements to women’s health in low and middle income countries through research, education and clinical practice. This has, among other things, involved creating a midwifery research network in six African countries based on the Millenium Develoment Goals.
My research on global women’s health helps address fundamental inequalities of access to high quality healthcare and this feeds directly into my teaching at Manchester with undergraduate and postgraduate students.
