Manchester statisticians celebrate International Year of Statistics

Free public event on Tuesday, 26 November 2013 (4-7l.30pm) in Roscoe Building
The event will involve academics from across the University of Manchester (Centre for Biostatistics, Social Statistics and Mathematical Statistics). It is also being supported by the Royal Statistical Society Manchester local group.
It will feature talks from Professor David Hand OBE (Imperial College, Past President of the Royal Statistical Society), Dr Ian McHale (Director of Centre for Sports Business, University of Salford) and representatives from local groups, as well as refreshments and a drinks reception. The event is free and everyone is invited to attend.

- 4-4.15pm: Welcome and Introduction to the International Year of Statistics 2013
- 4.15-4.30pm: Statistics at The University of Manchester - Professor Natalie Shlomo (Social Statistics) Prof Graham Dunn (Centre for Biostatistics) Dr Peter Foster (Statistics Group, Maths)
- 4.30-5.15pm: "Data, data, everywhere, but let's just stop and think" - Professor David Hand, Imperial College London
- 5.15-5.45pm: Tea/coffee and refreshments
- 5.45-6.30pm: "Using statistics to identify who is the best football team of all time"- Dr Ian McHale, Director of Centre for Sports Business, University of Salford
- 6.30-7.30pm: Drinks reception at Christie's Bistro
