Cancer film gets festival screening
22 Oct 2013
The Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute is holding a film screening and discussion panel on 24 October, as part of Manchester Science Festival.
The documentary film, The Enemy Within, tells the story of the last 50 years in the fight against cancer, from the earliest treatments for ‘incurables’ via Nixon’s ‘War On Cancer’ to modern targeted therapies being pioneered here in Manchester.
The film will be followed by an opportunity to talk about ‘the next 50 years’, and particularly the impact of the new Manchester Cancer Research Centre with:
Institute Director and world-leading skin cancer specialist Professor Richard Marais
Cancer Research UK’s Lead Research Nurse, Clare Dickinson; and
Head of Chemistry in the Drug Discovery Unit at the Manchester Institute, Dr Allan Jordan
The screening and Q&A is free, and tickets can be reserved via Eventbrite https://theenemywithin.eventbrite.co.uk/
The Manchester Cancer Research Centre is a partnership between the University of Manchester, The Christie and Cancer Research UK and is due to open in Summer 2014. More information can be found on the website http://www.mcrc.manchester.ac.uk/
