LIVE Podcast by the Barometer: Is breathing bad for you?

Tuesday, 29 October (7-8pm)

Book on: http://livebarometerpod2013.eventbrite.com/, free

Take part in a live podcast with the Barometer. What impact does poor air quality have on our health, whether that is at home in the kitchen, at work or when taking a stroll down a busy street like Oxford Road?  This is your opportunity to ask a panel of experts anything you ever wanted to know about air pollution. The University of Manchester has climate specialists at the frontiers of research who are happy to tackle your questions.

Planetary Odyssey - The Origins of Earth & The Solar System

Tuesday, 29 October (11am-4pm)

Ever wondered how the world around you was formed? Venture into the world of planetary science with our moon and meteorite samples, learn how the Earth has changed and plan your very own space mission. Come and explore the wonders of our solar system with scientists at the cutting edge of space research.

Diving into the data pool: Exploring how medical data is shared

Thursday, 31 October (6pm-7.30pm)

Many everyday activities generate huge amounts of data, which can then be analysed for marketing and research. Most of us accept this as part of modern life, but how do we feel about our medical data being used similarly? Medical data is a powerful tool for biomedical research, but are there implications for privacy, consent and the relationship between individuals and society?

At this event, you will hear from ‘big data’ experts about the value and challenges of sharing medical data. You will have chance to discuss your views and hear from leading researchers in Manchester.

Science Spectacular

Saturday, 2 November (11am–4pm)

Join us on a whistle-stop tour of research at The University of Manchester and take part in some great science challenges. Meet the scientists and engineers behind the research and take part in fun activities throughout the day. And see if you can spot our pop-up scientists who will deliver Manchester Minute Microlectures - science in 60 seconds. You'll also meet up with our science buskers - science tricks on the go! Part of the Manchester Science Festival.
