Fire Service strike called off

The strike scheduled for Saturday, 19 October 2013 has been cancelled, but please read these guidance notes in case of further strikes.
During the Fire Service strike days, everyone is asked to be more vigilant and to follow the advice below:
- Keep your work area tidy
- Place waste in appropriate waste or recycling bins
- Switch off electrical equipment not required to operate overnight
- Report frayed or defective electrical power leads to your line manager
- Report broken or defective electrical equipment to your line manager
- Ensure fire doors are kept closed (unless fitted with an automatic release mechanism such as a maglock)
- Report any missing or damaged fire extinguishers to Estates and Facilities Helpdesk
- Report any Fire Action notices that do not have an fire assembly point indicated to your line manager
- Report any waste material found in stairwells or corridors to line manager
- Ensure your visitor/s are made aware of the University's evacuation procedures
- If you can, please use the stairs rather than the lifts
- Please do not use the lifts during a building evacuation unless they are dedicated evacuation lifts
- On hearing the alarm or if requested, please follow the normal evacuation procedures.
