Staff Survey action plans set to tackle four key issues
10 Oct 2013
Behaviours, performance and development review, reward and recognition and leadership are the four University-level themes where work will be focused
The Staff Survey took place in March and April of this year, with an amazing 71% of eligible staff taking part.
The University-level results were encouraging with 94% saying the University is a good place to work and 92% saying they are proud to work here.
Key themes
But as well as the positive, there were some areas with room for improvement – and four key themes have been identified as areas needing work at a University-level. These are:
- behaviours
- performance and development review
- reward and recognition
- leadership
Action plans
As well as these themes, Staff Survey Action Plans have been put together for each of the four Faculties, the Professional Support Services (PSS) and the Library and visitor attractions.
These action plans have been developed by Action Plan leads who have been given the task of leading on the implementation and monitoring of the action plans.
Professor Martin Humphries, who is leading the Staff Survey Steering Group said: “The survey revealed that 41% of staff didn’t believe that anything would change as a result of them taking part in the Staff Survey.
“We are determined to prove this 41% wrong, which is why so much effort has gone into sharing the results as widely as possible, carrying out further consultation on a local level and putting together action plans for each part of the University.”
Next steps
Working groups are now being set up to tackle these four University-level themes – and in some cases work has already begun.
These groups will be expected to set short, medium and long-term targets and implement specific strategies to achieve the targets. The Staff Survey Steering Group will be responsible for monitoring the progress of these University-level themes.
The responsibility for progressing Faculty, PSS and Library/Visitor Attractions action plans will rest with the Staff Survey Action Planning teams, working in close partnership with the senior leadership in their areas.
