Checks ordered for plastic bottles of concentrated nitric acid
08 Oct 2013
Fisher Scientific has advised the Safety Office that there have been several incidents involving 2.5 litre black plastic bottles containing concentrated nitric acid.
Ageing appears to cause embrittlement particularly around the shoulder and neck of the bottles which can lead to the top shearing off.
A safety circular has been issued to schools asking for stock checks, and for bottles of specified supply batch references to be withdrawn.
