Feedback invited on planning application for railway viaduct over River Irwell

04 Oct 2013

Network Rail has submitted an application for the proposed Ordsall Chord – the first stage of the Northern Hub programme to deliver faster, more frequent trains across the North of England and help stimulate economic growth - to the Transport and Works Act Unit for consideration.

Network Rail is seeking consent to construct and maintain a new railway viaduct over the River Irwell in the vicinity of Ordsall in Manchester and Salford. This will connect Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria stations, allowing more trains to travel through the city centre and across the North of England.

Below are details of the consent process and, importantly, how you can put forward your views to the decision makers.

The TWA Unit, within the Department for Transport, will consider and determine the Ordsall Chord application. In addition, Network Rail is required to apply to National Planning Casework Unit for Listed Building Consent and Conservation Area Consent. These applications will be considered in parallel.

Please see below for details of how you can view the TWA application documents and associated plans for Listed Building Consent and Conservation Area Consent, as well as ways of submitting representations on the proposals. Please note, the period for reviewing the proposals and submitting feedback to the decision making authorities will run until 28 October 2013.
