Jeanette Winterson’s students publish anthology
11 Sep 2013
A new Anthology featuring the first University students to study under the Professorship of award-winning author Jeanette Winterson, has been published by the Centre for New Writing, where they are based.
Introduced with a foreword by the Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit author, The Manchester Anthology features novel extracts, short stories and poetry by the Centre’s Creative Writing Master’s students.
The MA class includes teachers, freelance journalists, a musician, an environmentalist and two semi-professional poker players. The group of 28 new writers featured in the Anthology are drawn from eight countries, including the US, Nigeria and Ireland.
Jeanette Winterson, Professor of Creative Writing, said: “The present phenomenon of the popularity of writing courses is a zeitgeist alert to the enduring need for stories and their telling. This isn’t about fame and fortune – it is about self-expression and communication. This anthology is one group of people committed to writing as a form of being alive. Wherever you find a writing course you find people taking time and money and converting it into something real to them.”
- The Manchester Anthology will be available from Waterstones (Deansgate, Manchester) priced £7.50 and as an e-book, ISBN 978-0-9926284-0-6.
