Acceptable Use of IT Services and Facilities – updated policy for staff
09 Sep 2013
The Acceptable Use Policy for IT Services and Facilities outlines appropriate use of the University IT provision, by which all colleagues must abide.
There have been some recent updates to this policy and it is important that all staff with access to IT facilities are aware. Some of the key points to note are:
- IT facilities are provided for conducting University business (eg: teaching, research, administration).
- Some personal use is allowed but this must not interfere with work and must be restricted to break times and after hours. The University does not guarantee privacy or security, and has no liability for any loss or damage connected with personal use of its IT facilities.
- Any form of unlawful, offensive, indecent or discriminatory activity is unacceptable.
- Anything that may corrupt or threaten the security of University IT facilities or data is unacceptable, for example by installing unlicensed software or sharing passwords.
- Using personal, sensitive or confidential data inappropriately is unacceptable and in breach of Data Protection regulations; for example accessing personal data you do not need for your work, or disclosing confidential information.
- Any activity that infringes copyright licensing is unacceptable.
It is important that all colleagues familiarise themselves with the full Acceptable Use Policy for IT Services and Facilities. This latest version replaces all previous guidance relating to this matter.
