Law lecturer nominated for World Trade Organisation post

Dr Yenkong Ngangjoh Hodu from the School of Law has been nominated by the government of Cameroon for membership of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The Appellate Body is an appeal chamber within the WTO legal system. Its seven members are persons of recognized authority, who have demonstrated expertise in law, international trade and the subject matter of the WTO Agreements generally. They are not affiliated to any government and are broadly representative of the WTO's membership.

Dr Ngangjoh, who is Senior Lecturer in Law and LLM/MA Programme Director at the University, is one of two candidates in the running for the African position.

He has written many books and more than two dozen articles on WTO Law and is regularly consulted by governments, regional organisations and United Nations Agencies on international trade and investment law.

The new member of the Appellate Body will be announced before Christmas.
