Come to MOSI and meet a nuclear scientist!

31 Jul 2013

On Saturday, 3 August (from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm), you and your family can join scientists from the Nuclear FiRST Doctoral Training Centre and take part in some free hands-on activities to find out lots more about radioactivity and nuclear energy.

I met a nuclear scientist today

It’s the fourth year that students from the School of Chemistry as part of their on-going Outreach activities have taken part in this popular event, the aims of which are to dispel some of the myths connected with radiation and nuclear energy in an open and impartial way. For example, did you know that as you read this article, you are being bombarded by nuclear radiation from outer space? Or that radioactivity occurs naturally in some common foods we eat?

Topics being covered this year are Radiation in Life, Cloud Chamber, Climate Change and Fuel Cycle. There will be an interactive Quiz, photo op and edible treat exhibit!

Although designed to be suitable for all ages, the majority of elements are aimed specifically at children and families.
