Volunteers needed to demonstrate museum’s vintage Baby computer

The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) is recruiting volunteers to demonstrate its 1948 Manchester Baby computer.

MOSI operates the world's first stored programme computer – which weighs in at five tonnes and was reconstructed by a small team of volunteers – and needs demonstrators on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

You need to be enthusiastic about looking after technology and keen to tell stories about it to a wide range of people from around the world.

You also need to have an interest in technology and good interpersonal skills to help our visitors to understand the Baby. High level electronic or computer skills are desirable but not essential as there are four levels of volunteer work available – from ‘explainer’ all the way to engineer – so there is something for everyone, from the beginner to the expert.

Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of one day a month with additional days welcomed. All volunteers are required to complete a routing Disclosure Barring Service application as the post involves regular contact with children who are visiting the museum.
