MAHSC appoints new Chief Operating Officer

Manchester Academic Health Science Centre announces new key appointment.

Peter Noble has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer for the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), starting on 1 October 2013. Mr Noble is currently the Director of Operations for the Medical Research Council in The Gambia, which manages the largest concentration of UK medical research in a developing country.

MAHSC – a partnership between the University and six NHS organisations – conducts leading-edge research dedicated to developing new treatments for the benefit of NHS patients and includes some of the most highly rated NHS trusts in the country. MAHSC is one of just five Academic Health Science Centres in the country, and the only one in the North of England.

Mr Noble has extensive experience of leading health care provision and health research at executive level, and is a previous winner of the Institute of Health Service Management Award. In the three years since Peter joined the MRC in Gambia, the Unit has secured a 30% growth in high quality research funding and was recently awarded the 2013 UK Business Continuity Award for its work on strategy and partnerships.

Professor Ian Jacobs, Director of the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre (MAHSC), said: "Peter’s appointment is a great development for our partnership. Peter’s arrival will complete an exceptionally strong leadership team for MAHSC, and equips us to do even more to drive research and innovation in the North West, nationally and internationally.”
