DIY day makes a difference to local youngsters
19 Jun 2013
Members of the Professional Support Services Leadership Team took part in an unusual away day last week.
They spent the day doing up the Anson Cabin Project, a charity based in Longsight, which offers play groups, after-school and youth clubs for local youngsters.
They spent time painting the meeting room, hall and stairways, as well as tidying up the garden and planting two big flower tubs outside.
Registrar, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer Will Spinks led the day and said: “This was an opportunity to both develop the PSS Leadership Team and make a contribution to the University’s social responsibility agenda.
“On a more personal note, it was great fun and I felt that we have made a real difference for those using the Anson Cabin Project facilities.”
Julie Scott from the Anson Cabin Project added: “It was a really good day, we all enjoyed it. We would definitely do it again and recommend similar days to other groups."

The session was organised with help from Denise Fieldhouse from the Staff Training and Development Unit and supported by Eastlands Housing Association.
Denise was awarded funding from the ‘Invest in Success’ scheme to help encourage staff volunteering both as a way to develop team building, but also to raise the University’s profile within the local community.
Denise has teamed up with CSV who help put on these days with local charities and if you’d like to find out more about more about the scheme contact Denise at:
