Invitation to tonight's Cockcroft Rutherford Lecture: In Place of War

04 Jun 2013

Members of staff are invited to view a live stream of the lecture at 7pm in Lecture Theatre A, University Place.

Professor James Thompson

This year’s Cockcroft Rutherford will be delivered by Professor James Thompson, Professor of Applied and Social Theatre and Executive Director of the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI).

Professor Thompson will speak about In Place of War – a research initiative here at the University that documents theatre and performance projects in sites of contemporary armed conflict. The lecture will be chaired by the President and Vice-Chancellor.

Before the lecture starts, the four members of Manchester's University Challenge team and their coach, Stephen Pearson, will receive Medals of Honour, the University’s most prestigious non-degree award, for their outstanding achievement in winning this year's contest.

The main lecture theatre, Lecture Theatre B, has been sold out to our alumni community but we have a number of places still available in the overspill lecture theatre, Lecture Theatre A. The lecture will be live streamed and then Professor Thompson and the President and Vice-Chancellor will come up to the theatre to take questions in person.

Any places that become available in the main lecture theatre on the night will be allocated to those in the overspill theatre on a first come, first served basis.
