Great Manchester 10k update

Colleagues from across the University took part in last weekend’s race – raising funds for a variety of good causes.
Colleagues from the Communications and Marketing Division, Manchester University Press and the School of Psychology Sciences took part.
Mike Addelman, Media Relations Officer for the Faculty of Humanities, was running to raise money for Crohn’s and Colitis UK, a charity which helps fund research into inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). His son, Jake, now aged 11, was diagnosed with IBD when he was just three years old and has been in and out of hospital for most of his short life.
Mike says “CCUK is a fantastic charity and works tirelessly to improve the lives of IBD sufferers like my son. Scientists are making great strides in finding ways to treat IBD but there’s such a long way to go, so CCUK’s funding of essential research is also hugely important.”
Despite pulling a hamstring, Mike ran the 10K in a very respectable 1 hour and 14 minutes and has so far raised £1,260. “Many thanks to everyone who sponsored me and I shall be back next year!”

Members of staff at Manchester University Press ran in memory of their colleague Reena Jugnarain, who lost her battle against cancer in November 2012. Wearing Ron Burgundy moustaches as a nod to Reena’s favourite film ‘Anchorman’, they have so far raised a stunning £7,250.80 for Cancer Research UK and The Christie, who helped Reena and her family during her brave battle.

Also running for The Christie was Margaret Naude from the School of Psychological Sciences. A veteran of the Great Manchester Run having taken part three times, although this was the first time the sun shone for her, she finished in 1 hour 8 minutes and 48 seconds.
