Transport for Greater Manchester priority bus route

A public consultation is taking place to get your views about plans to make parts of Oxford Road accessible only by buses, taxis, emergency vehicles and cycles from 2014 - the deadline for comments has now been extended to Friday, 5 July.

Transport for Greater Manchester and Manchester City Council are asking the public for their views on a bus priority scheme for Oxford Road and the Portland Street and Chinatown areas of the city.

Under the bus priority plans, sections of Oxford Road will be available for use by buses, taxis (hackney cabs), emergency vehicles and cycles only.

Cyclists could travel on improved cycle routes along new Dutch-style cycle lanes, while there would be wider footpaths and improvements at junctions and crossings.

Changes to traffic movements in the Portland Street and Chinatown areas of the city centre will also keep some buses separate from general traffic to allow more reliable services. New and upgraded bus stops will improve accessibility.

There will be full service access to all businesses, and complementary traffic measures are planned for the routes parallel to Oxford Road to help drivers and local communities.

The closing date for making comments has recently been extended by just over a week, to Friday, 5 July.

You can make your comments by calling TfGM on 0300 123 1177 (Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm: calls charged at a local rate and include inclusive minutes from landlines and mobiles).
