Tabley House celebrates improved access to paintings

Over 80 people gathered at The Tabley House Collection, Knutsford, last week to celebrate the completion of a 10 year project to improve access to paintings across Cheshire and the country.
The project, spearheaded by The Public Catalogue Foundation (PCF), was set up in 2003. The event also marked the publication of a guide to paintings in Cheshire.
The guide covers paintings from large collections such as those at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and the Grosvenor Museum in Chester to the much smaller collections held by local schools, hospital trusts and chapels.
The newly published guide is unique in featuring all the paintings in all the collections and all in colour.
Knutsford’s Tabley House Collection takes pride of place in the Cheshire guide, with paintings from the Collection featured on the front cover and colour plates throughout the new catalogue. The Tabley House Collection is widely acknowledged to be one of the best in the county.
Clare Pye, Chairman of The Tabley House Collection Trust, was delighted to host the event, welcoming representatives from most of the other collections featured. Of the PCF project, Clare said; “The Tabley House Collection is very pleased to have its pictures recorded and revealed to a world wide audience by the PCF. It is especially pleased to feature so prominently in the catalogue for Cheshire.”

Tabley House is owned by the University and staff can visit The Tabley House Collection free of charge.
Opening hours are Thursday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays (2–5pm).
