Six Ways to Wellbeing
The University is committed to providing a healthy working environment and improving the quality of working lives for all staff. Wellbeing is a combination of the physical, psychological and the social features of a person.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) define wellbeing as:
Creating an environment to promote a state of contentment which allows an employee to flourish and achieve their full potential for the benefit of themselves and their organisation.
For employees a good working environment can positively impact on these aspects and more workplaces, including the University, are trying to positively influence wellbeing.
University activities for Library staff to get involved with include:
- Six Ways to Wellbeing is the University’s strategy for Wellbeing
- Counselling Service offers confidential help with any personal issues affecting work, self-esteem, relationships, sexuality, mental health and general well-being
- Wellbeing Rooms at North Campus and South Campus offer everything from yoga to zumba, massage and beauty treatments
- Wellbeing Workshops include meditation, mindfulness, unhelpful thinking and low moods
- Numerous running and walking groups and cycle to work groups and support are available, while the Sporticipate term-time programme offers free activities from dance and frisbee to kickboxing and netball
- The Wellbeing blog is regularly updated and the University has Volunteer opportunities that are also part of the Social Responsibility goal.
