Library Spaces
Library Spaces Policy Statement
We work closely with central University teams, such as Estates and House Services, DASS and our Students Union to ensure that the management and development of Library public facing spaces and facilities meet the requirements of all of our users.
We consistently review the use of our spaces, responding to user feedback, and initiate new projects to update, transform and adapt them to our users' changing needs.
Accessibility, inclusion and environmental sustainability are considered in our approach to all space development projects, working as appropriate with other University teams and expert colleagues to achieve this.
Library Spaces Governance Group
The Library Spaces Governance Group manages spend on Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) related to staff, customers and stock including impact on technology budgets. They are not responsible for planned and reactive maintenance of Library buildings - this remains the responsibility of the Library Spaces Coordinator.
Role
- Agree budget
- Agree annual spending priorities
- Agree budget submission
- Strategic liaison with Directorate of Estates
- Consult with and communicate to Library Executive and Library Leadership Teams

Library Spaces Operations Group
The Library Spaces Operations Group manages spend on Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) related to staff, customers and stock including impact on technology budgets. They oversee operational projects and initiate new projects as required. The group makes decisions or recommendations to the Library Spaces Governance Group on the allocation and change of use of Library spaces.
Role
- Conduit for Exec lead and Campus Management Group
- Liaison with Library Directorate Management Teams
- Gather requirements from Library Directorates for spend of budget on spaces
- Consult with Library Leadership Team to identify spending priorities
- Initiate projects and allocate budget
- Monitor budgets
- Tactical liaison with colleagues in the Directorate of Estates
- Define KPIs for building usage/efficiency/satisfaction
- Library Spaces Coordinator to provide updates on planned and reactive maintenance of buildings
- Review staff space requirement
- Review spaces in Library stores
