Student placements

The University’s insurance policies provide cover for the University’s legal liabilities arising out of the acts or omissions of the University and its staff and students.

The University’s insurance policies do not cover students in respect of any acts or omissions on their part (unless the University could be considered to have at least partial legal liability).

In particular, the University’s Employers’ Liability, Professional Indemnity and Medical Malpractice insurance does not cover students who are on a placement with an external organisation whether as part of their studies or otherwise. In such cases the expectation is that the host organisation will provide equivalent cover.

Such cover is in place for placements in companies wholly-owned by the University of Manchester.
