Insurance cover
Organisations
The University's insurance policies cover the University and its subsidiary undertakings. (Subsidiary undertakings are those that are under the control of the University, and include University-controlled companies).
Associated and hosted undertakings that are not under the control of the University are not covered, unless they have been advised to, and accepted by, the insurers.
Questions about whether particular undertakings are included under the University's insurance cover should be referred to the Insurance Office.
People
Anyone working directly for the University, whether as an employee, volunteer, visitor, or on placement or secondment etc. is covered by the University's insurance policies as appropriate.
People working for University contractors or who are self-employed (including external consultants) are not covered by the University's insurance policies.
Students are not considered to be working for the University whilst undertaking activities forming part of their studies, but some cover is provided as described in Insurance and students.
Property
Property insurance is provided for University property in line with the University's risk management requirements.
In general, the University does not provide insurance for personal property brought onto its premises. However, personal possessions insurance is provided for students' property in University-managed halls of residence as part of the accommodation package in most cases - check with the residence to confirm.
The University travel insurance provides a level of cover for personal possessions whilst travelling.
