Researcher development and supervisor awareness
The Faculty of Humanities Researcher development team seeks to work alongside other University training providers to offer relevant, effective and comprehensive professional development for researchers at various stages of their careers.
They also offer lunchtime training sessions on supervisor awareness which are intended to complement the training you receive on the HNAP. For more information contact Eljee Javier (eljee.javier@manchester.ac.uk).
Teaching and learning events
The Faculty has held several Teaching and Learning Showcase events which included presentations from Faculty colleagues on a range of approaches and technologies to improve improving student learning, student experience and the staff experience.

eLearning

eLearning / Blackboard weekly drop-ins
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 12:00 - 13:00 in Room C1.44, Ellen Wilkinson Building. No need to book, just turn up and receive:
- support in preparing your course for migration
- a tour of Blackboard
- discuss some of the new features of Blackboard
- to get a clearer idea of the impact of Blackboard on how you deliver teaching and learning?
- advice on using specific tools such as the assessment and assignment tool, discussion tools etc
Academic writing (for members of staff whose first language is not English)
The University's Staff Learning and Development section delivers this three-hour workshop, plus a follow up one-to-one tutorial. Areas explored include:
- What do successful writers do when they write? Participants will explore the process of writing with reference to their own experiences of writing and with reference to what we know about the practices of other experienced writers
- What are the principal features of academic writing? Some of the commonly recognised characteristics and conventions of academic writing will be explored and discussed
- How can greater clarity and flow in writing be achieved? Participants will learn about and discuss a number of useful strategies for improving clarity and flow
Participants will be asked to bring samples of their own writing to the session for analysis and discussion. The session and follow-up tutorials will be run by a highly experienced writer and teacher of English for Academic Purposes.
