Students on Placement

The university is responsible as far as possible for sending people on a placement that is not going to discriminate. There has to be due diligence undertaken when sourcing and approving a student placement as part of a programme of study.

Placement Coordinators or Academic Advisers may wish to undertake a placement needs assessment to consider any potential reasonable adjustments that might be required while a student is on placement or to identify any concerns or issues that may arise from the impact of their condition while on placement.  This will offer the opportunity to explore the types of reasonable adjustments that can be provided while on placement. Specific areas for consideration could include but are not restricted to:

  • Travel/transport to placement
  • Transition support – e.g. pre-placement visits
  • Placement environment
  • Disclosure
  • Supervision/mentoring arrangements
  • Feedback arrangements
  • Other reasonable adjustments required
  • Monitoring/reviewing of arrangements

Please refer to the Checklist for Placement Learning for more information.
