Humanities eLearning team

The Humanities eLearning team is here to help you!

The Learning Technologists (LTs), Learning Designers (LDs), eLearning Support Officers (eLSOs) and eLearning Support Assistants (eLSAs) here provide advice, guidance and demonstrations to academic staff on the opportunities for using technology in teaching, learning and assessment.

Furthermore, we provide support to academic staff on the use of Blackboard and other supported tools.

On campus, we're mainly based in Crawford House, but you can submit a query to our team via Connect.

Faculty

Stuart Phillipson - eLearning Manager

Stuart works closely with academic colleagues in the Faculty and the wider eLearning community to develop online content and support the innovative use of tools in the VLE to enhance learning and enrich the student experience.

Linda Irish - Assistant eLearning Manager

Elsa Lee - Assistant eLearning Manager

Elsa Lee

Elsa has moved from her position in SoSS, where she supported colleagues for a number of years, with particular attention given to the support of using Mobius (alternative assessment engine to Blackboard tests), Piazza (discussion board tool) and TurningPoint (audience polling system) to engage and assess students during their course of learning.

Aside from this, Elsa is an avid foodie who enjoys baking, cooking and eating out in Manchester.

Hilary Pooley - Learning Technologist

Hilary works closely with academic colleagues in the Faculty and the wider eLearning community to develop online content and support the innovative use of tools in the VLE to enhance learning and enrich the student experience.

AMBS

Hamza Badenjiki - Learning Technologist

Hamza joined the Humanities eLearning team in November 2015 as a learning technologist. His role involves supporting Alliance Manchester Business School and the Faculty, working with the academic staff and administrative teams to provide both pedagogical and technical support, for face-to-face and blended learning; and to liaise with the central Institutional departments to ensure smooth running of the VLE and other supported learning technologies that we use, to ensure that the University's implementation of e-learning is carried out effectively. 

Hamza worked in the design and development of technology-supported learning for over nine years. He worked as a learning development specialist within the learning development and innovation team at Staffordshire University. He supported academic staff in effectively utilising Blackboard within their practice, providing training, support, advice and guidance from a pedagogic perspective. He was involved in research and teaching. He taught on four under-graduate and post-graduate units. 

Prior to joining Staffordshire University, he worked as a learning materials developer at Stoke on Trent College. The focus was on authoring and re-purposing work-based learning and curriculum materials for foundation degrees and work-based learning courses. 

Hamza participated in a number of Joint Information System Committee (JISC) and Higher Education Academy (HEA) projects and was involved in organising technology-enhanced learning events at Staffordshire University. 

Hamza graduated from Staffordshire University with a BA (Hons) in Applied Computing and completed an MSc in Multimedia and E-Learning at the University of Huddersfield. 

Christine Lampe - Learning Designer

Christine joined the University in March 2023 as Learning Designer.

Andrew Richardson - Learning Technologist

Andrew joined AMBS in February 2023 having previously worked in SALC.

Gary Vear - Learning Technologist

Gary joined the University in March 2023.

Omar Ahmedmia - eLearning Support Officer

Omar works closely with academic colleagues in AMBS and the wider eLearning community to develop online content and support the innovative use of tools in the VLE to enhance learning and enrich the student experience.

Blaise Nkwenti-Azeh - Learning Technologist

Blaise works closely with academic colleagues in the Faculty and the wider eLearning community to develop online content and support innovative use of tools in the VLE to enhance learning and enrich the student experience.

Olesya Shipova - Learning Technologist

Olesya works closely with academic colleagues in the Faculty and the wider eLearning community to develop online content and support the innovative use of tools in the VLE to enhance learning and enrich the student experience.

Graham Holland - eLearning Support Officer

Graham is the service area lead for eAssessment submission and feedback. He lead the piloting of Cadmus in Humanities in 2022-23 and 2023-24, and is on the University’s Cadmus Implementation Group overseeing the introduction of this exciting new assessment tool across UoM from September 2024.

Outside of work Graham is a regular parkrunner, junior parkrun Run Director, and music promoter in his home town of Liverpool.

Kar Stanton - eLearning Support Officer

Kar works closely with academic colleagues in SALC and the wider eLearning community to develop online content and support the innovative use of tools in the VLE to enhance learning and enrich the student experience.

Jonny Crook - Learning Technologist

Jonny has been working in the design and development of eLearning resources for the past eight years. He graduated from York St John University with a BA (Hons) in Art and Design. He worked for a learning technology company in York before moving to London to work for Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College. He is interested in creating innovative interactive resources and using new technologies in education.

Jonny enjoys travelling and briefly worked voluntarily for a charity in Cambodia, providing IT support.

He joined the Humanities eLearning team as a learning technologist in March 2009.

Mark Lobjoit - Learning Technologist

Mark Lobjoit

Mark is currently on load to SEED from SoSS. 

Mark has considerable experience supporting complex, large scale MCQ Exams in Blackboard and Mobius. He is interested in developing HTML5 Learning Objects in H5P, and is familiar with the nuts and bolts of things like SCORM, IMS/QTI, xAPI and, as the Service Area Lead for Data, takes an interest in eLearning Analytics.

Outside of work, Mark is a keen photographer, cyclist and mountaineer.

Helen Perkins - Learning Designer

Helen works in the team on a part-time basis primarily as a learning designer for SEED. Helen is also involved in staff development, course design and Size & Shape.

Jo Williams - eLearning Support Officer

Jo has a wide range of eLearning, project and assessment experience, including working in both FSE and Transnational Education here at UoM. Some of you may know her from exams support work and she is one of the organisers of the new Digital Education Network (DEN) event.

Janean Lancaster - Learning Technologist

Janean joined the University in 2020 and is the service area lead for the Humanities eLearning Team’s web content – Humanities eLearning on StaffnetHumanities Teaching Academy – and also knows a thing or two about Power Automate and Qualtrics.

Work aside, Janean is an avid music fan, film buff, and likes to dabble with Photoshop.

 

Charlotte Warden - Learning Designer

Charlotte has joined SoSS from AMBS as a Learning Designer. This is one of four new roles across the Faculty. As well as offering eLearning and Learning Design guidance the team are working alongside TLSE colleagues to provide Curriculum Design support for new programmes throughout the NPP1 & 2 approval stages and beyond.

Rachel Willder - Learning Technologist

Rachel Willder

Rachel is the service area lead for online exams and works closely with eLearning colleagues to promote exam robustness and decrease academic malpractice.

Rachel welcomes questions and feedback about the equipment Humanities have installed and the various pedagogical approaches we have recommended to staff to make teaching a success.

Outside of work Rachel plays softball, is trying to get into gardening and always has a book on the go.

Rachel specifically supports the Departments of Philosophy, Politics and Social Anthropology.
