Install Software
PointSolutions Web is entirely browser based and, as such, there's nothing to download and nothing to install. Simply choose your favourite browser and off you go.
The traditional PointSolutions Desktop software, however, does require installation. Thankfully, with your account sorted, you're free to install it on as many work and personal devices as you like.
Install PointSolutions on your work device
On your work computer you will be able to install PointSolutions via the Software Centre. You can either click the Software Centre application icon on your desktop, or access it through a browser at the following address: softwarecentre.itservices.manchester.ac.uk
If you're going through the browser you may see an error message if you're using Chrome. If this happens, you can try to 'allow' or 'run' Microsoft Silverlight if it invites you to do so, or open the link in an alternative browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox. If you are asked to log in, simply enter your regular University username and password.
Once you're in, search for pointsolutions in the search bar in the upper right area of the screen. Select PointSolutions from the list, click INSTALL in the bottom right area of the screen, and then select YES on the popup window. PointSolutions will then begin to install. Once installation is complete you will see a confirmation message. The software is now available for you to use.
Install PointSolutions on your home devices
As a licence holder you are able to install PointSolutions on your home devices. To do so, login to your instructor dashboard at instructor.turningtechnologies.eu. You'll notice there are three icons in the upper right area of the screen. Click the downward facing arrow and it will take you to the Downloads page. You'll then have a small range of options to choose from:
- PointSolutions desktop (PC)
- PointSolutions desktop (Mac)
- PointSolutions desktop (PC – No Install)
- PointSolutions web (PC)
- PointSolutions web (Mac)
Most of you will want to choose PointSolutions desktop (PC or Mac as required). This is the flagship, comprehensive desktop software that integrates with PowerPoint. There is also the option of "PC No Install" which allows you to run a portable version of the software that doesn't need to install itself on your system in order to work. This means you could run it from a USB stick, for example. This could be useful in some rare circumstances, but otherwise I would stick with the regular versions that install themselves onto your device.
The other options relate to PointSolutions Web and allow you to do some best-of-both-worlds integration with PowerPoint.
