About us

Teaching and Learning Support Services combines the strengths of the Faculty's Teaching and Learning and eLearning staff. We work with colleagues in central administrative offices, School PGT and UG Directors, and administrative staff with responsibility for these areas. Project work is also undertaken with individual staff members in Schools.

Support and priorities

The team supports the work of the Vice Dean for Teaching, Learning and Students in developing and achieving priorities in teaching that are consistent with the University Vision 2020 and Faculty strategies.

This is achieved in part through the creation and dissemination of policies and procedures through the Teaching and Learning Committee and the Teaching and Learning Administrators' Network (TLAN). TLAN acts as a support mechanism for School administrators, and a conduit for sharing information and opinions, and general communication to and from Faculty and the University.

We provide support for Schools in keeping programmes under review to ensure that they remain among the best in their discipline in this country, are attractive to students and offer students excellent progression to research or opportunities for employment.

We handle Faculty approval of External Examiner nominations; student complaints, appeals and academic malpractice cases; update business processes and work with various Faculty and University working groups on special projects and reviews.

Developing eLearning

Developing and expanding the use of eLearning is very much part of the University's agenda.

eLearning offers tremendous flexibility and gives students another method of learning at their own pace and in an independent way. The Faculty of Humanities has been a leader within the University in its use of eLearning and it is important that we continue to build on these strong foundations.

Our eLearning Technologists and Support Officers provide advice, guidance, and demonstrations to academic staff on the opportunities for using technology in teaching, learning and assessment. See Support and Services in the eLearning section to find out how the eLearning Team can advise on and help with the development of eLearning materials, and how we're putting the University's eLearning Strategy into action.
