Finding images

The Web Team has access to several image sources, including Chorus and Shutterstock. If you require images for print or web, please contact the Web and Digital Team.

Commissioning photography

The Student Marketing and Recruitment Team has access to an extensive library of University and subject-specific photography. Please complete the marketing brief (pg.3) and share it with your Marketing Officer to determine whether there is existing imagery that can be used for your project.

When commissioning new photography - whether for an event or use in printed material - it’s still important to complete the marketing brief to help determine what you need and how you plan to use the imagery, The brief should be shared with your photographer to steer them in the right direction.

You will also need to consult the University’s brand guidelines on photography. These guidelines clearly set out how to create eye-catching imagery that creates an emotional connection with our audiences and fits into one of our three categories of imagery content - action shots, environments or portraits.

Accessibility

In order to comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), all non-text content displayed must have a text alternative that serves the same purpose. The user uploading the image will ensure that alt text is provided, although it may be helpful for you to provide descriptions of your images if it is not immediately obvious to the average user.

WCAG also requires that text is used to convey information as opposed to images of text. Images of text are only permissible when used for pure decoration or where the particular layout is essential to the information being conveyed. Including text as part of a logo is considered acceptable.
