Faculty Peer Review of Teaching (FPRT)
The Faculty Peer Review of Teaching is utilised to assess teaching across the Faculty, enhance teaching quality, provide a roadmap for progression, and share best practice.
FPRT is designed to be a supportive and holistic process. Experienced members of teaching staff review their colleague’s teaching performance and provide feedback on their teaching practices, learning materials and course design.
This Faculty and Department teaching review is available to all staff. This ensures the continuation of high-quality teaching, from our tenured academics to our new academics. FPRT can be utilised to ensure the satisfactory completion of probation via the New Academics’ Programme (NAP).
These reviews are to be conducted every five years for all members of staff with a normal teaching load and who aren’t in a probationary period. The review format includes:
- Observation of two teaching environments (lectures, tutorials, student support sessions and laboratory/practical sessions)
- Review of teaching materials.
- Review of course unit design.
Additionally, during the FPRT process, Reviewers will pull together a list of strengths and areas of improvement for the reviewee. This helps aid their development, improve their teaching practices, progress their career, as well as ensuring excellent teaching quality across the Faculty.
Please note: we have introduced SharePoint to make the sharing of FPRT forms easier. A blank copy of the FPRT form will be available in each Reviewee’s folder and this can be edited directly.
Please use the FSE FPRT Dashboard to access observation forms.
