Workspace throughout the new home of Engineering and Materials is predominantly found throughout the Third to Sixth Floors of Engineering Building A and the newly refurbished Oddfellows Hall. This space is home to over 2,000 colleagues, PGRs and PDRAs from across our four departments, as well as Professional Services from across the Faculty and our Research Institutes.
Behind secure access-pass control, workspace has been designed with a range of space types, recognising that we all work in different ways. These include:
- open plan workspace and four-person shared offices for academic colleagues;
- 62 four-person meeting rooms, bookable via Resource Booker for academic colleagues, and 14 four-person meetings rooms, available on a non-bookable basis for PS colleagues, PGRs and PDRAs;
- informal meeting areas across each floor for in-person and virtual meetings and larger team meetings;
- enclosed call pods for confidential or sensitive virtual meetings;
- four social spaces per floor, to get away from your desk, eat lunch and socialise;
- two designated quiet working rooms, on the Fourth and Fifth Floor, available on a non-bookable basis and providing a space for quiet concentration.
You'll also find a number of additional facilities throughout the space including:
- at least three kitchenettes per floor, with hot and cold water points, fridges, a dishwasher and a sink;
- Four showers and an accessible shower with an adjacent drying room facility (Room 3A.052, Third Floor, Core Four) for storing wet belongings;
- a dual-function welfare and first aid room (Room 3.021J, Third Floor, Core One, Engineering Building A) which can be used as a rest space, quiet space for wellbeing and expressing/breastfeeding space.
