Inviting a visitor (physical or remote access) for more than 7 days
Familiarise yourself with the current list of countries facing embargoes, sanctions and/or restrictions (key countries).
For remote access you must know the physical location of the visitor and their home institution.
If the home institution of the visitor (physical or remote) is based within the UK
No further checks on their home institutions are required, but please be aware of the following:
- If you plan to share controlled goods or technology (information, research data, or knowledge) with them you must inform them that if they wish to take this information out of the UK, it is their responsibility to apply for an export licence, in advance of their visit.
- For a remote visitor located outside the UK, but whose home institution is within the UK: if you plan to share “controlled” technology (information, research data, or knowledge), it is your responsibility to apply for an export licence by filling in and submitting an Export Controls Compliance request (online form) with the Regulatory Compliance Team. Do not share any controlled items until a licence is in place.
Follow the People & OD procedure for inviting staff visitors to the University or to grant them remote access; or follow the PGR or Recruitment & Admissions procedure for inviting a (PG/UG) student visitors to the University or to grant them remote access.
