Equipment
DASS can facilitate the provision of specialist disability equipment and software for staff.
If you need equipment or technology at work, then register with us or book a Quick Query appointment as soon as you can, as it can take some time to get the support that you need in place.
What equipment can I get?
You will have an assessment of support after registering with the Disability Advisory and Support Service.
Below are some examples of equipment that we can provide:
- Digital recorders to help with note taking
- Magnification software for blind and visually impaired users.
- Screen reading software for blind and visually impaired users.
- Read back software to help with reading text from a computer or proof reading work.
- Mind mapping software to help with structuring work.
- Speech recognition software to enter text by speaking where using a keyboard would present difficulties.
- Ergonomic equipment such as specialist chairs, desks, mice, and keyboards.
- Video magnifiers for blind and visually impaired users.
- Radio aids for D/deaf or hearing impaired user.
Equipment can be either be funded through the government scheme Access to Work or by through DASS, depending on your circumstances.
We have a range of software available on the University’s cluster computers (for example, those in the library, Learning Commons, and other University buildings).
