Web
The Division of Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment is responsible for the development and maintenance of the main University site and intranet (Staffnet), and as part of DLT gives direction and sets standards that support staff in developing University-related sites and blogs in line with the approved governance framework.
The web guidelines pages on the Brand site include all the principles agreed in the web governance in terms of visual identity. They set out the basic header and footer requirements for all sites, and provide specifications for fonts, colours and in-page content, navigational elements, and use of the 'manchester.ac.uk' domain.
The Brand site also provides guidance on developing a consistent tone of voice and house style when writing for University websites and ensures relevant information on University websites can be found by users easily via search engines.
We also offer strategies to ensure that University websites are accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
Requests for new websites/blogs should be sent to the relevant digital team. In those occasions when websites cannot be developed in-house, the Brand site has a list of web agencies that have recently worked for University clients and are familiar with the University brand.

Writing for the web
This is a training session offered by content specialists from the Division to all University staff that have to put together content for websites. It will look at how to structure content to make it reader friendly and look good on screen. This session is focused on content rather than the technical aspects of creating websites, and as such it requires no specialist web or IT knowledge.
