Marketing urls for print

T2M is a tool that allows staff to create and monitor marketing urls with format uom.link/xyz which are used in University's printed publications. For information on marketing urls with format www.manchester.ac.uk/xyz see the guidance provided.

Guidelines

When using short urls with format uom.link/xyz, please follow this guidance:

  • Use these short urls in printed publications only, such as leaflets, prospectuses, posters etc.
  • In print always use uom.link/xyz (see image); never use http://uom.link/xyz or https://uom.link/xyz
  • If you are creating a digital version of the printed publication (for example, a pdf version), make sure to use https links (https://uom.link/xyz) 
  • Use UTM parameters for the destination url of the shorts url to track traffic generated by it. This will help you monitor the performance of your print campaigns. See information about tracking campaigns with UTMs.
  • Don't use abbreviations or acronyms not known to the general audience.
  • Avoid special characters; only use hyphens or underscores, if needed, to separate words.
  • Don't create short urls with format uom.link/abc/xyz; use instead uom.link/abc-xyz
  • Create urls that are short, clear and memorable; avoid long urls such as uom.link/abc-def-ghi-xyz
  • Avoid creating urls that are too general, for example uom.link/phd (when /phd is referring to PhDs in a specific Faculty).
  • Please note the following short urls cannot be used: uom.link/home, uom.link/ug, uom.link/pg, uom.link/pgt, uom.link/pgr, uom.link/masters, uom.link/phd, uom.link/manchester, uom.link/study, uom.link/collaborate, uom.link/connect, uom.link/discover, uom.link/contact
