Meet the team
Rachel Cowen
Rachel is Professor of Inclusive Researcher and Academic Development and University Academic Lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (Gender and Sexual Orientation).
She leads the Faculty New Academics and Fellows Programmme and supports holistic and integrated academic development, reward and recognition across Research, Teaching and Learning and Social Responsibility.
She is a mentor, coach and champion for diverse and inclusive leadership development supporting the career advancement of colleagues across the University.
Rachel holds a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, is the University Aurora Women’s Leadership Champion, national Aurora Advisory Group Member, Athena Swan panel chair and reviewer for Advance HE National Teaching Fellowships and Collaborate Awards for Teaching Excellence.
Dianne Burns
Dianne Burns, RGN, BSc (Hons) Nurse Practitioner, MSc (Clinical Leadership), PG Cert T&L, , RNT, SFHEA (Senior Fellow Higher Education Academy) is a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at the University of Manchester. She is Programme Director of the PG Cert in Medical and Health Education and Academic Lead of the LEAP (Leadership in Education and Awards Programme) and Pedagogy Development Programme within FBMH. She also leads the multi-professional Leadership in Professional Practice unit within the MSc Advanced Leadership in Professional Practice Programme in the Division of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. Dianne is the current Chair of the FBMH Student Professionalism Group and a panel member of Fitness to Practise and University Disciplinary and Appeals Committees. A Registered General Nurse since 1984, Dianne worked in a variety of acute clinical settings (Acute Medical/Surgical, Orthopaedics, Accident and Emergency) before moving into community nursing to work as a practice nurse then Nurse Practitioner/Nursing Team Co-Ordinator within a large semi-rural GP (General Practitioner) practice. Each of these roles has provided a perfect opportunity for her to draw upon her enthusiasm and passion for engaging with students, educator colleagues, and healthcare practitioners in order to enhance teaching and learning within the university and the wider community.
Nick Weise
Dr. Nick Weise is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Medical Education, specialising in academic & researcher development. His main interests and expertise lie in technology-enhanced learning, flipped teaching and provision of collaborative, reflective programmes of study for practitioners in higher education, clinical and healthcare sectors
Sharon Muskett
Sharon's role is Academic Development Coordinator (FBMH) and is a member of the Faculty Teaching and Learning Team. She is responsible for planning, coordinating and adminstering all the Faculty's core training programmes for academic staff including the New Academics and Fellow Programme (NAP) and Padegogy Development Programme (PDP).
Adam Kilkenny
Adam's role is Academic Development Assistant (FBMH), he provides administrative support to a range of development activities for academic staff within the Faculty including the New Academics and Fellows Programme (NAP) and Pedagogy Development Programme (PDP).

NAP is part of a University wide approach to support new academics and provide academic staff with the skills they need to carry out their work at the highest level.
Pedagogy Development Programme (PDP)
PDP ensures that all those contributing to Faculty programmes can engage with sound pedagogy and share best practice in teaching, learning and student experience.

Postgraduate Certificate Medical and Health Education
The PGCert MHE programme supports health care professionals to enhance their teaching and learning. It provides a unique opportunity to engage with other healthcare educators worldwide. It is a flexible postgraduate certificate delivered exclusively online to enhance practice and broaden professional expertise while you work.

The Leadership in Education Awards Programme (LEAP)
LEAP supports you in documenting and evidencing your teaching excellence and is an opportunity for you to receive a formal, national qualification for your teaching. The programme is accredited by AdvanceHE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) and can award Associate, Fellowship, Senior and Principal HEA Fellowships.
The Faculty has over 400 Fellows with around 80 new awards per year. Further details about the programme are available on the LEAP website.
