UG tutorials

Students have regular small-group tuition with an Academic Tutor throughout their degree.

Academic Tutors have different areas of expertise and students will normally have several Academic Tutors during their University careers.  In the first year of study, the Academic Advisor (see below) usually acts as Academic Tutor.

Attendance at tutorials is compulsory and production of satisfactory tutorial work is a requirement of all degree programmes.

Academic advisors

Every student is allocated an Academic Advisor at the start of their studies who will usually accompany the student for the duration of their degree.

The Academic Advisor will:

  • assist students with the process of induction and orientation into academic life at the University
  • retain an interest in the student's personal and general academic and professional development throughout their studies, providing information and guidance on academic choice
  • monitor the student's academic performance and engagement in a proactive manner and advise on constructive strategies to enable improvement
  • listen and offer students help and advice about pastoral/non-academic matters and to signpost students to other services for further assistance if necessary
  • signpost relevant careers and skills development provision to enhance employability
  • provide references for applications for placements, jobs or further study

Guidance and contacts

Tutorial guides and online information are provided to staff and students and an annual briefing session is delivered to Academic Tutors and Advisors (as announced).
