Widening participation and schools liaison
Widening participation in higher education, particularly enabling fairer access to an education at the Faculty for talented students regardless of their background, is central to our values.
Widening participation means that we seek the following in everything we do:
- excellence (the best possible students);
- inclusivity (making sure that we include people from all backgrounds);
- impact (we have a positive effect on students and the wider community).
The aim of widening participation is to make sure the Faculty’s student body is as diverse as possible by supporting students from backgrounds where people do not generally go onto a university education.
Schools liaison
Many schools liaison and outreach activities are planned throughout the year. These range from Discover Days for years 12-13 to primary school workshops.
We get many requests from Schools to provide experts to speak to pupils and students about science. Sometimes, unfortunately, we can't fulfil these requests and welcome volunteers.
If you are interested in taking part - or if you get a request from a School and you would like to talk to someone about these activities before agreeing to take part - then please contact us.
We are trying to collate a list of all of our activities, so if there is an event you are doing please let us know.
