Helping vulnerable women in Manchester

15 May 2018

Make a donation to Emmeline's Pantry

The University’s walking group MCRStrollers (formerly Lunchtime Strollers) has set up drop off points for donations after meeting the people who run local charity, Emmeline’s Pantry, and learning more about the work they do in our community.

Emmeline’s Pantry is a female only foodbank and everyone visiting was very moved to hear the stories of the vulnerable women who use their service. These include victims of domestic abuse, trafficked women, and female nurses and teachers with families who are also on the breadline too. 26 charities and services refer women to Emmeline’s Pantry, so they are desperate for donations. Everyone was particularly shocked to hear about the suffering of trafficked and abused women, and babies who were previously wearing tea towels instead of nappies. Many of these women and their children leave abusive households with just the clothes they were wearing at the time.

When the plight of these women and children was shared to the MCRStrollers mailing list (and subsequently passed on to friends and colleagues), many have been inspired to help fundraise for this charity and they have set up drop off points for donations up to 30 May 2018.

If you are able to donate, the items that are desperately needed are:

  • Ladies toiletries
  • Baby products
  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Biscuits (and nice treats for mums and their children)
  • Washing up liquids
  • Clothes detergent tablets/pods

Other items that would be massively appreciated

  • Sanitary products
  • Nappies (especially bigger sizes)
  • Clean and laundered clothes for ladies and babies/young children
