Road closures for Manchester City FC Parade and Great City Games

11 May 2018

From late evening on Sunday, 13 May to midday Saturday, 19 May Deansgate will be closed between Quay St and Great Bridgewater St

What’s happening

On Monday, 14 May Manchester City FC will celebrate their Premier League victory with a parade and an open bus tour.  The parade will depart at 6:15pm from Victoria Street, behind Cathedral Gardens, before taking a one-mile (1.5km) route through Manchester city centre, finishing on Deansgate. The full parade route is Victoria Street, Deansgate, John Dalton Street, Albert Square, Mount Street, Peter Street, finishing on Deansgate.

A number of road closures and parking suspensions will be in force. More information can be found at:

On Friday, 18 May the 10th Arcadis Great City Games will take place in Manchester city centre followed by the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run on Sunday, 20 May. Roads around the city centre, Trafford and Etihad stadium will be temporarily closed to traffic during the times of each event.

The closures will mean all traffic has to find alternative routes and the events themselves will likely make public transport much busier than usual.

Bus services will be significantly affected by the road closures, with services being diverted onto alternate routes or onto the motorway network.

Journey times are likely to take longer so you should plan ahead. More information can be found at:

Advice for your journey

  • Plan ahead
  • Avoid driving into or near the area if at all possible. Use TfGM maps to see the most-affected areas
  • Use the motorway network if you are travelling across the city
  • Tram, train and walking will be the best way to watch the event
  • Expect tram and train services to be busier than usual
