Livestream event: Challenging Ableism in Academia

The Disabled Staff Network (DSN) in partnership with the School of Social Sciences warmly invite all staff to a livestream event: Ableism in Academia on Friday, 23 March
Academia prides itself on productivity, innovation and rigour. It also purports to promote inclusivity and diversity. However, as many of us know, ableism - discrimination in favour of able-bodied people - is endemic in academia. This is something we need to change.
The livestream event will take place in G.108 in the Alan Turing Building and begin at 10:00 with the keynote speech from Dr Fiona Kumari Campbell (University of Dundee), author of 'Contours of Ableism'. The University of Kent and Bloomsbury institutes are also planning parallel livestreaming events.
This is an opportunity for productive discussion around ableism and is open to all individuals regardless of role who identify as disabled, chronically ill, or neurodiverse, as well as those who do not.
A copy of the programme and additional information is available. This event will begin and 10am and conclude at 3pm.
Attendees are welcome to attend parts of the programme which interests them. A light lunch will be served in the Alan Turing Foyer and during the lunch break there will be an optional informal discussion about what concrete actions Schools and The University might implement to reduce ableism.
