Living Beyond Dementia

18 Jul 2017

The Whitworth hosts exhibition examining how to live well after dementia diagnosis

Together Dementia Support

A support group for people for dementia and their families and friends have curated an exhibition at The Whitworth.

The exhibition – by Fabulous Forgetful Friends, a local Dementia group coordinated by Manchester-based charity Together Dementia Support – will examine living well after a dementia diagnosis and focus on living beyond dementia and the importance of creativity and active citizenship for those living with a diagnosis.

Fabulous Forgetful Friends is a peer support group which empowers local people living with dementia. Whilst providing a platform to raise awareness on the issues surrounding dementia, the group aims to make a positive impact on their local community by improving public services and making them more dementia friendly.

The exhibition, Beyond Dementia, will be launched at 6pm on Thursday, 27 July, and run until Sunday, 17 September.

The launch evening will be an opportunity to meet the Fabulous Forgetful Friends, view their artwork and get a sneak preview of the exhibition as well as enjoy performances by Together in Song: Dementia Gospel Choir.

Beyond Dementia will feature:

  • Artist Workshops to explore the benefits of creativity to health and well-being
  • Film Screenings
  • Exhibition talks
  • 'Mindfulness for Carers' sessions
  • Opportunities to take part in Dementia Friend Training sessions
