Paper waste reduction

08 Mar 2018

Could you reduce your paper waste?

Paper waste

Did you know: The University uses over 1 million disposable paper cups, the equivalent of 500 trees worth of resources every year.

This week we are challenging staff and students to reduce waste. Today is aimed at looking at how you can reduce the amount of paper that is used, from printing to paper cups.

Currently the amount of waste that the University produces is increasing, whilst at the same time the level of recycling is reducing (currently only 30% of our overall waste produced end up as recycling). Major waste issues have recently been covered in the media, including single use plastics that end up in the ocean, disposable single use paper cups or excessive amounts of food waste and we need your help to reduce the amount of waste we produce.

We will also be running a competition during March, we will be giving away an Eco Mug to the best pictures uploaded to social media showing how individuals are reducing their waste. Make sure you use the hashtag #UoMreduceweek

How to enter:

Submit your pictures on any of the UoM Sustainability social media channels such as: and use our hashtag #UoMreduceweek or use our tag @uomsust  and hashtag #UoMreduceweek
